It’s every wedding photographer’s favorite – the DJ that’s also a photographer AND a videographer!   It’s interesting that many of these images were flipped so that Google wouldn’t pick them up in a search.

removing water marks get an added fee in a lawsuit. because it shows intent. it shows someone trying to remove someone’s credit. wonder if a judge will feel the same way about flipping the photos… all i can say is all that does is add extra dollars to the verdict against them.

    • “removing water marks get an added fee in a lawsuit.”
In the us it ads another 2500$ to 25000$ because removing the watermark was judged a violation of the DMCA’s provisions on circumventing rights management information.

Unfortunetly, we don;t have that up here in Canada as far as I can tell but it is a violation of the integrity of the work, a violation of the authors moral rights under Canadian copyright.

ps.: Not a layer, I just play one on the internet so for legal advice, consult a lawyer.

      • peaceetc

You aren’t a layer? Do you sleep standing up? Or maybe hanging upside down? Eric… are you a vampire?

        • ALP

Aren’t we all vampires at this point?

          • Justin Case

funny you should bring that up, as I just saw this on one of his music pages:
‘JARNSTJARNA has spent much of his life immersed in the gothic subculture
            of Montreal, Canada’

          • captain-confuzzled

look, on this page there’s an option to even join his cult! lol http://vampirefreaks.com/synthsyn

          • peaceetc

No, thanks. I’ll stick with this cult. 🙂

        • Didn;t I tell you I’m NOT a vampire … er I mean lawy … er … meh… all the same really. 🙂 (jk)

        • OH! I see what you did there. :p
Blame it on my phones tiny keyboard.

  • peaceetc

Let’s just nip this one in the bud, shall we? I know, it won’t work, but let’s pretend it will.

To IVAR EINARSSON AUDIO VISUAL PHOTO IN ST. ALBERT, ALBERTA, please do NOT do the following:

    1. Flag comments on this listing. We mods will just put them back, so don’t waste your time.

    2. Lie. We have heard every excuse in the book, and you will not come up with something we haven’t heard before. You are not a special snowflake. Nothing you can say will justify what you did, so don’t bother.

    3. Accuse us of slander (because nobody ever figures out it has to be verbal to be slander). We stick to the facts, and if something is publicly available, it’s fair game.

    Please DO the following:

    1. Remove any and all stolen images.

    2. Apologize DIRECTLY to those from whom you have stolen. You owe them that much.

    3. Hope they don’t sue you. Copyright infringement is illegal under the law, and you can be sued for thousands of dollars for EACH stolen image. Yes, seriously.

    4. DON’T STEAL. It’s not complicated — if you didn’t take a photo and don’t have permission to use it from the actual copyright holder, then don’t use it. It’s that simple. Yes, seriously. You claim to be a photographer, so why on earth would you want to use others’ images, anyway? How does that make sense?

    And remember:

    1. If you do it again, you will be caught. Don’t forget — Google knows. Any time someone searched for your business, this listing will come up.

    2. Think about the actual victims here (no, not you) — those whose images you stole. You screwed them over. And frankly, that’s a pretty damned crappy thing to do.

  • Lindsay11

So it looks like he also goes by the name of jarnstjarna http://feest-ca.com/Bluffton-School-Dance-Ponoka-County-03-14 http://www.facebook.com/jarnstjarna

That facebook page is also down and that’s been in the last few months so maybe he’s been caught before?

    http://www.icelandmusic.is/music/artists/jarnstjarna/47

  • WTF = What the Flip hahahha
Hey dumbass Google can find flipped and processed images. Dam technology thwarting photostealers everywhere.

    • Photo Stealers

Actually no, Google won’t typically find images that have been flipped horizontally. I know this though and if something looks suspicious I will flip to see what I find. It will find processed images though without any issues.

      • Really ??? I could have sworn it would be in similar images when I saw flipped images.

        • Photo Stealers

I’ve not had any luck but It may work sometimes. 🙂

          • Christopher C.

Google does an analysis on the image based on colors and shapes in the photo as well as those colors’ and shapes’ positioning to others in the photo. If an image is flipped horizontally, it’d be very easy to trigger a “similar image” analysis.

Such an analysis won’t work every time of course, but it’s helpful. That said, it’s important to remember that GIS isn’t actually flipping the image as part of the search, it’s just doing a comparative analysis to what it’s seen.

        • ALP

It seems to depend on the image. I’ve seen some that Google can find and others that it won’t but strangely symmetry doesn’t seem to have much to do with it.

  • Weird … his website lists his business as having offices in both Alberta and Ontario.
(WHO USES STUPID IMAGES FOR CONTENT!!!!)

But his whois put’s him in Drums | Pensylvania!?
    Registrant Name: Einarsson, Ivar
    Registrant Organization: IDCCAVP
    Registrant Street: PO Box 459
    Registrant City: Drums
    Registrant State/Province: PA
    Registrant Postal Code: 18222
    Registrant Country: US

    • Helena

      Sketchy. :/

      • peaceetc

I don’t know, Helena. I put the Alberta and PA addresses into Google Maps, and it says it would only take 41 hours to drive from one to the other. 39 without traffic. Totally doable. 😉

The other office would take six hours.

        • Helena

Haha. Everyone likes a nice 41 hour drive.

    • Even weirder, the registrant appears to also be a record label located in Alberta?
      http://calgary.jazznearyou.com/idccavp.php#.U_I6H8VdUas

  • captain-confuzzled

so, I’ve seen about three of these so far on different sites, where he offers discounts if his wedding customers can generate “likes” on his FB page. (attachment) *smh* http://eventviva.com/event/540447692729027

  • captain-confuzzled

The “western” address on his website is a business incubator center http://www.nabi.ca/

Then there’s the virtual office for the “eastern” address (although it also is a real business bldg, so could be a real office I’m guessing not in his case). http://www.davincivirtual.com/loc/ca/ontario/toronto-virtual-offices/facility-329

  • So let’s see we have.

1- Address is a rent as needed type of location.
2- Registrant address is in a different country
3- Content on the website is images (makes it hard to copy paste).
4- Images flipped and fixed to make detection harder.
5- Multiple business (on top of the 3 services already listed ex.: Record Label).

Yeah … not scammy at all.
The one yelp review also isn’t too encouraging.

  • captain-confuzzled

I don’t know why, but I just love this “explanation” of ending a radio show (attachment)

    • doncalifornia

Yes, “mysterious event” is one of the top five reasons for leaving a paying career. lol

    • peaceetc

Did a demon portal open up? Perhaps a magician made his career disappear?

  • captain-confuzzled

found this on Wikipedia (sort of – it comes up as a denied entry), but explains the connection between record label, Ivar, etc It seems to match what I’m finding while searching, so it looks like a good summary.

“Jarnstjarna is an Icelandic-Canadian electronic music band that formed in 2004 following a period in Iceland. The band consists of one member, Montreal-born Ivar Einarsson (aka Jarnstjarna). Jarnstjarna music and lyrical content periodically include references to Norse culture

In 2005, the band released a Demo CD to Germany. Four years
later, Jarnstjarna surfaced in Alberta, Canada, as a professional DJ specializing in EBM and Electro music at various venues. In May 2012, Jarnstjarna’s debut CD will be unveiled in Reykjavik, Iceland Jarnstjarna is signed to an independent label IDCCAVP, located in Edmonton, Canada. Jarnstjarna founded the label in 2005 to promote Icelandic musicians”

    • It’s a little weird that the label (IDCCAVP) would be the one to register his domain.

Not impossible but you would think they would have transferred the domain to him once the site was no longer geared towards his profile as a musician.

      EDIT:

Never mind, it’s his record label.

“Jarnstjarna, an Icelandic hybrid of energetic melodic EBM-rock music and smooth vocals. Debut CD: June 30, 2012. Professional & focused. DJ resident at 5 locations in Canada, 3 yrs. Host of Synthsyn on CJSR-FM. Founder of IDCCAVP in 2005. Audio, video, special event lighting specialist.”

      source: http://www.sonicbids.com/band/jarnstjarna/

      • Justin Case

And the label doesn’t seem to have a website: http://idccavp.com/ gives IDCCAVP – Page Under Construction until 13/01/2014.

        • captain-confuzzled

guess his dreaming is bigger than his talent

      • BullShite

Fly-by-night labels are super sketchy. They sell these big dream, and for next to nothing wind up owning the rights to the music, or even the “image” of the musician, who is typically some kid with stars in his eyes about an industry that essentially died sometime in the early 2000’s. This guy is a skeezebag.

IDCCAVP = Ivar Damian Communications Corp = sketchy history

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    ‘Hello,
I created the Ivar Damian webpage. I wish to deactivate it. It seems as
though your membership are determined to destroy the content and
credibility of the page. This does not come as a surprise. I contacted
Ivar Damian Management, they consent to removal of the page from
Wikipedia. If you have further questions, contact them.’

This page was last modified on 27 July 2008 at 21:52.

having your page removed from Wikipedia just screams all kind of wrongness…

    • peaceetc

I’m not terribly familiar with how Wikipedia works, but it’s not meant as a means of advertisement. That makes no sense to me. The company doesn’t get to decide whether it gets removed.

    • doncalifornia

There is a “speedy deletion” archive at wikia, which looks like a place that archives articles which have been deleted from wikipedia. An excerpt from the history of Ivar Damian’s musical career:

      “…Blindness
from a motor-vehicle accident while completing university, the injuries
were diagnosed as permanent. Bedridden in solitude & darkness, Ivar
      learned braille
language, adjusting to drastic changes in his life. He also resolved to
return to music – a passion that never died. He astonished physicians
with a full recovery one year later and he very aggressively forged
      ahead with his new life.”

Here is the whole article which was deleted from wikipedia:

  • Justin Case

the wedding rings image that is found on his facebook and various ads is stock.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if you have to use stock to advertise your wedding images, you are not a real photographer.

    • captain-confuzzled

well apparently he knows enough not to use the stolen rings photo in his portfolio. *smh*

  • peaceetc

His domain appears to be down. I was in the middle of clicking through it, and started getting not found errors, and now the main page says ‘under construction.’

  • Helena

This image seems to crop up a lot. Guessing it’s not his. Found it here amongst other places.

Anglian Home Improvement Awards eh Ivan?

    • captain-confuzzled

oh good grief! and here I thought at least the events stuff might be his. silly me!

  • captain-confuzzled

soooo…in this ad the price is “Free” (highly sustainable business practice), but you have to contact them for a quote. (attachment)

    • peaceetc

Is that like when a recent stealer said she’d shoot for free, but there was a fee attached for her time?

  • captain-confuzzled

this is making me kinda sick…here he is holding hostage a contract for this kid, with his own label, by making this kid generate likes for his DJ page. (attachment) http://allevents.in/alberta/justin-support-for-1st-cd-release/526038240847753#

    • peaceetc

That’s a pretty crappy way to do business.

    • BullShite

If this is real, this is super sketchy, and not how “it’s done”. I would LOVE to see the contract they probably made this poor guy sign…. and HOPEFULLY it is not taking the rights of this guys stuff away from him.

The worst part is that this Justin does NOT need a “label”. NO ONE needs a “label” anymore. That part of the music industry is dead, as are the necessity of one.

Back in the day, a label invested in you, on the idea (and reality) that you would return the investment. THEY set up interviews, promoted you, put out your record/tape/CD and booked your shows, all while paying you…. and they OWNED you and your music. (Most famous musicians could actually have made more money with “regular” jobs, because they were so f’ed by the labels. )

THIS IS TOTALLY UNNECESSARY NOW. A musician can not only do all of this on their own, but thanks to illegal downloading the idea that you are going to make money from an album is next to nil, especially in dealing with the “middle man”. If you are going to make money as a musician, you need to bank only on products that are not stealable, and touring and or gigs. In other words, count on being completely broke for the most part.

      (End Rant)

  • Justin Case

Gone, gone, gone. But He’ll be back. He seems to have been living this fraud for quite awhile, so I can’t imagine where he can go without it.

    • peaceetc

I really find it fascinating how all these “businesses” can just up and delete or hide their web sites and social media pages. What kind of real business could just pick up stakes and leave?

  • Hihihihi … check out his yelp reviews. We’re mentioned now. 🙂

I got a private message from another member informing me that this company is suspected of image thievery and there is now an entry for them on stop stealing photo’s website comparing EAVP and the original images that appear to be from other photographer’s websites.

If you’re looking at this company for yourself you better take a look at that. If the portfolio is a sham you have no idea what you’ll get back (if they show up and even take photos after they take your deposit).

    http://www.yelp.com/biz/einarsson-audio-video-photo-st-albert

  • BullShite

Does anyone have “Sound Hound” to see if his music is all his too? Just in case? I’m sure it is, but it’s always worth checking.

    • Lindsay11

I didn’t even think of that! I listened to one song after Cap said he liked the music but it wasn’t my cup of tea.

      • BullShite

I would run it myself, but I don’t have one of those fancy hoity-toity internets phones, which is the only way to get the App as far as I know. 😉

  • Wow, this guy really looks like someone who deserves a swift kick in the balls. Not that I ever advocate violence, but yeah, here, I am.

    • Wes Jones

Can I get in on some of that? Where do I get in line for the ball kicking? Actually I would rather punch him in the nose, but the balls will do…

  • Photo Stealers

This guy is now leaving hurtful comments on the FB pages of the photographers HE STOLE FROM. Wow.

    • V323

      Screen capture?

    • peaceetc

That’s a new low. Ivar, you’re probably reading this, so let me offer up a bit of advice:

      STOP.

You stole and you are in the wrong. Unless you want to be sued for thousands of dollars for copyright infringement (which is illegal in the vast majority of countries), stop stealing and go the hell away.

    • What do you mean hurtful??

      • Photo Stealers

From what I understand saying untrue things about her business: she is unprofessional, didn’t show up for a wedding – that kind of nonsense.

    • SCREEENCAPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!

      • doncalifornia

yes I think it is important and helpful if we could always screencap all the behavior of stealers once they’ve been caught, wherever their behavior shows up. ALL of it. It should be archived here along with all the evidence of their theft and the discussions about it.

      • peaceetc

I don’t think there are any screencaps. One of the photographers posted on the PS Facebook page about it, but I think the comments have already been deleted.

    • BullShite

What a superdouche. Not only does he have a sketchy azz “label” but he steals, (specifically makes those photos hard to trace) and then harasses those he steals from.

    • You can’t fix stupid

      What a sick mother f@#&$%

  • Photo Stealers

Update: Georgie had to shut down her Facebook Page due to the untrue statements that were being made about her business.

    • peaceetc

Ivar Einarsson, you are lower than low and your behavior is horrible. That you would do that to another person — a person from whom you stole — is utterly despicable.

    • V323

So this guy stole her work then trashed HER page after getting caught? WTF?!?!

    • captain-confuzzled

Thief goes back and taunts victim. What a scumbag!

  • U Really That Dumb?

    Ivar,
Do you realize that you could go to prison for that? Not the stealing, but the other lies and actions associated with it.

    Helen Phung,
The person you need to talk to is Ivar. HE is the one that posted your image on Facebook. This page is a media source and therefore has every right to post screen captures.

  • Brian

Sorry for asking this here but I had a question about Disqus. It is obvious that the ^ symbol is a thumbs up for a comment. The other symbol (which I don’t have on my phone keyboard) that is pointing down, is that to flag the comment?
Also I like to think everybody who put in long hours and hard work on this very site.

    • U Really That Dumb?

      That’s thumbs down.

    • peaceetc

It is a thumbs down, but it won’t seem like it works. It used to show a number, but now it’s registered behind the scenes somehow.

      • Brian

        Thanks!

  • Ivar Einarsson is nothing but a spoiled child that is lashing out at adults just because he got spanked about his photography stealing ways.

  • Hey! I just realized some of you guys have “Mod” next to your name. NICE! Well deserved and thanks for helping out the cause! 🙂

    • peaceetc

We are now mad with power, Al. Be worried. 😉

      • I’m a mod at DPS, so I get it. I get the need and draw to power. I feel an evil laugh bubbling up inside of me right now!! Time to go to DPS and ban-hammer someone!

        • Justin Case

          DPS?

          • Digital Photography School.

          • Marc W.

            Not Department of Public Safety?

  • Carly Fuller

Wow! I never thought that people steal this much. What on earth are they doing when hired?! Sheesh HORRIBLE and scary!

  • CkOne

I just checked the site again and now he has made the porfolio private and you are required to have a face to face meeting before you are given access to the portfolio. wonder if he makes them sign a form to keep them from reporting stolen photos, sharing the password/link or staying anything negative about them.

    • yeah, I noticed that as well. Douche.

    • Helena

Why would anyone arrange a face to face meeting with someone whose portfolio isn’t visible?!

  • doncalifornia

Ivar Einarsson now has three reviews on Yelp which are not recommended. All three are from people Ivar contacted after the stealing became public. He solicited their reviews.

On Aug 18, one begins: “Hello. Ivar contacted his customers asking us to give some support. It seems like some people are attacking his business….”

The next on Aug 19: “This is to reassure you that Ivar is genuine…”

And later on Aug 19 another: “Ivar contacted his clients tonight to post their experiences…”

So let me get this straight. The guy steals and lies. The guy gets caught and instead of apologizing, calls all his most lap-doggy clients to put up solicited reviews to counter all the bad news, and at the same time goes on a cyber attack of the legitimate photographers he stole from.

    Sounds legit.

  • Justin Case

“It seems like some people are attacking his business.” Yeah. People who care about photography and frauds.

I guess I can’t complain about people posting positive things when they have personal experience, but it astounds me how few people want to actually look past their nose to see what all the fuss is about. Just for curiosity’s sake, wouldn’t you want to know the charges you’re supposedly defending someone against?

  • U Really That Dumb?

To those about to steal, those that have stolen, and those that say nothing ever gets done! Read this!

In a different jurisdiction or a different judge, she would have received all of it. She may still on appeal.
