Thiago Dea

I have to admit, I don’t do much on 500px, the people over there seem so hardcore and I guess I just know Flickr more.  Every now and again I’ll get a submission of a thief over there but this one made me laugh because of his excuse.  I guess that’s the quickest way to get featured, have an excuse that’s totally ridiculous.

A photographer that appears to be fairly well known on 500px found out that one of his images was on someone else’s page with their watermark.

Also, I wanted to add that I finally put a donation link at the top of this page.  Many of you have asked if you could donate for all of the time and effort I put into PS and I’ve finally decided to put one up.   Maybe if this page makes enough money I’ll move to a fancy URL all of my own!  Thanks in advance!

Back to the program!

Here is the image on Thiago’s 500px account.

He’s also showing it on Instagram:

Here’s his reasoning why he did this:

On 500px in reply to Calvin’s questioning about why he’s using his original work with Thiago’s watermark.

On Calvin’s Facebook page where Thiago was outed:

*high fives to Calvin on his reply*

Another image from the 500px account:

Original source:

He’s removed a couple images as I was writing this post but what remains there he’s used composites of images sourced elsewhere online.  Still a grey area IMHO unless you obtain the rights to the images but we’ll move on.

Let’s go to his Facebook shall we?

Again, more composites but I’m not going to bother with those for now since he’s on a deleting spree.

Let’s start here.  Yes, he may have edited the image but as you may recall from my thoughts on the editing and watermarking of the image of the royal baby, if you didn’t take the image, your watermark has no place on the image.

Another editing job.

He says in some of the posts that he has gotten the image from deviantart and edited it … the suggested context is that he is practicing / demonstrating editing techniques. Yes, I know, not his image, needs credit, etc. True.

    • Creating derivate works. – Violation of copyright
Distribution of the works – Violation
Public display of the works – Violation

      Should I keep going?
