  • Justin Case

…and there were at least 40 more images yesterday… I didn’t refresh my home computer, so I still have them in the cache.

    • Justin Case

      here they are…

    • Justin Case

      sorry, missed one below.

(these are mostly from the same sources as above)

  • Anyone else notice the MP3 they offer for download?
    01-02- Wild Ones (feat Sia).mp3 (7,4 MB)

    http://files.jfrancis-weddingphoto.com/200001784-a01f4a1192/01-02-%20Wild%20Ones%20(feat%20Sia).mp3
Anyone want to get the RIAA involved?

    • Joseph Philbert

      Dam mp3’s too smh

    • Justin Case

that’s new… wasn’t there yesterday. Neither was the Shania Twain youtube link

    • Benjamin Rowe

I have got a feeling that is an advert and not directly his content.Look at the website it is a really bad template job.

      • If you look at the source of the link for the MP3 … it;s hosted directly on his site, not on a third party site … he put it there.

  • Looks like they also run a hair design business but at least the hair design pics seem legit (except for one banner pic at the top of the page).

  • TC

Another business running under a personal page. Reported to Facebook.

  • Not again!

The hair side of things: https://www.facebook.com/tina.kelly.33449
Also a personal page that should be a business page.

  • Joseph Philbert

    Instant photographers strike again!

    • Jetsetter23

I shoot Instant film… this is not an instant photographer…this is a hack fauxtographer. 😉 How about instant “pros” strike again?

      • TirzhaZ

I think he meant “Instant” as in “One instant I wasn’t a photographer, and the next instant I was!”

        • Marc W.

Yeah, but lets not make this a term as there are actually legit “instant photographers” out there.

      • Joseph Philbert

        I stand corrected..

  • I could have sworn that from the images that appear to be really his that he’d be some crusty old dude which would explain the horrible taste in …well, everything. But no, he’s not that. heh

  • Oh and from his website:http://www.jfrancis-weddingphoto.com/about-us/
“We are passionat about art, about people and love, so we use our talent to make the weddings the most beautiful frame from the book of your life..”
Nice spelling, and WTF is he trying to say?

    • Justin Case

it’s poetry Al. Speaks to yer heart, not yer head.

    • Joseph Philbert

      It’s French …lol

What the hell is this even. Please tell me this woman didn’t pay money for this kind of treatment.

    • captain-confuzzled

aw come on. don’t you see the artistry?.. gotta love the way the man’s foot is in his own mouth at the bottom.. (yes, read sarcasm here)

    • Cinobite

      What the fuck is that!

    • The Bad Wolf

      Whaaaaaaat is THAT??

  • peaceetc

I’m late to things. Has this person removed the stolen photos yet? Any acknowledgement on their part to today’s listing?

    • Joseph Philbert

      Nope … I don’t expect it..

    • Justin Case

He was reported on the ‘About Us’ page a few days ago. Shortly after he removed half the images on his site. Could just be a coincidence since he left many images from the same photographers.

      • peaceetc

I hope the original photographers file DMCA requests with his web host. It’s unfortunate he doesn’t allow comments on his Facebook profile. I’m sure any PM attempts would go to his other folder.

        • Justin Case

his web host looks to be in the Czech Republic and is pretty low-rent, judging by the looks of it.

          • Marc W.

That must be how those “borrowed” photos got up there, the cheap hosting company did it.

          • Justin Case

…and they changed the names of the couple… and added his watermark! Ohhhh, those darn hosting sites… at it again!

          • Joseph Philbert

Stop lying we all know its stack images from google …those are free.
They found it with out the watermarks also. 😛

        • Justin Case

you can always use his website to contact him: http://www.jfrancis-weddingphoto.com/contact-us/

          EDIT: or johnk.weddingphoto@yahoo.co.uk

Eww Selective Coloring! This woman looks like she is in her bathrobe!
WHY!?! WHY!?!?! WHY!?!?! *banging my head*

  • Benjamin Rowe

From the facebook page nothing seems out of place apart from a personal page being used as a business. on the website you can see the difference in the quality of the work both shooting and editing. Also his prices are too cheap that he will run himself out of business.

Yes a stealer but not the worst offender we have seen. Also I think he is oblivious to PhotoStealers.

    • Justin Case

At least the original photographers have been informed. He’s not the worst, but he’s pretty blatant.

    • “Also I think he is oblivious to PhotoStealers.”

Another clue he doesn’t understand business … Photostealers should show up in his analytics like CRAZY!

I’d be concerned if I saw a lot of traffic going to my site from a site with a name like photostealers! 🙂

Actually my first reaction would be “Awesome … tons more traffic” followed quickly by a “AH CRAP!” as I checked the source of all that traffic. 🙂

      • Justin Case

Google search for ‘JFrancis wedding studio photography’ now brings up this page at the top of the list.

Sadly, there are a few John Francis Photography studios listed in Great Britain, so I hope they don’t all get tarred with his dirty brush.

Time for another round of Fauxtographer’s Bingo!

    • The Bad Wolf

It is so awesome that this is a “thing”. 🙂

  • The Bad Wolf

Well, you can certainly see the difference between the fauxtog’s and the stolen images…. the lighting is AWFUL.

  • WooT Gummtree ad got pulled. I reported it for stolen images and linked to here. 🙂

    • captain-confuzzled

      WTG!

  • Joseph Philbert

Oh no I am in so much trouble 🙂
Cant wait for the lawyers letter.

    • The Bad Wolf

HAHAHA!!! I bet it’s a big entertainment lawyer! Better watch out!

    • Justin Case

um, yeah, another original one – ‘I was the second shooter.’
So why are your photos such utter shit and not even in the same universe as those who you ‘colaborated’ with?

  • Justin Case

    DONE!
    • Website empty (well, except for a single stock photo of the sky)
    • changed his name on his Facebook account to ‘James Collins’
    • Gumtree add is gone

My guess is some of those Romanian photographers who he ‘colaborated’ with told him to get his act together.

I’ll be checking back for the re-branding… well done, Photo Stealers!

(Oh, and Joseph, I think you’re off the hook. Don’t think you’ll be seeing that lawyer’s letter after all…)

    • Joseph Philbert

Does that mean his lawyer will not constant me??? Say it’s not so lol!

    • Haining Gallagher

Does this mean that he is a fake? I have paid this guy to do my wedding. Feel sick right now

      • Justin Case

Well, Haining, I would ask to see his REAL work. His website is down, as is his facebook page.

Who knows, maybe he’ll do a great job. But it’s simply not possible to judge anything by the images posted above, since he didn’t take a single one of them.

        • Haining Gallagher

He came to my house with an album of photos. How am I supposed to tell he didn’t take them. I cant get in contact with him, i am so upset :'(

          • Joseph Philbert

The images on the Album could also be fake… I actually bet they are.

          • Haining Gallagher

I cant get in contact with him. Tried his website and email. I am gonna try through the hairdressing website.
I just want my money back and to go to someone else now after seeing this.
If I cant get a hold of him have you and idea about what I could do?

          • Justin Case

Did you make a deposit with him? If not, I would start looking for another photographer.

The Tina K Hair design would be a good place to start. And did you get an ‘undeliverable’ at his yahoo email (johnk.weddingphoto@yahoo.co.uk)? Or is he just not responding?

          • Joseph Philbert

When a photographer gets called out this is the one thing thing that bothers me … is when they have booked weddings and now the clients find out they are a fraud and try to get their money back.

          • Haining Gallagher

He has contacted me. He has a new website, but how am I supposed to know if these are his genuine photos or another bunch of stolen ones. We have paid a deposit, not massive, but still.
            http://www.artwork-photo.com/#img-4698-copy-jpg

          • Joseph Philbert

Those actually look like his images. If you are satisfied with that level of work then its up to you if you still want him as your photographer or you may fell better hiring someone else with better integrity.

          • We normally do a reverse google image search or use a service like TinEye. Just checked a few and they don;t show up anywhere else.

Also, he appears to have posted A LOT of images from each wedding … so these look like they are legit.

That being said, the quality of these images is … less than stellar.

            http://www.artwork-photo.com/#img-4698-copy-jpg
Blown highlights, awkward pose and over sharpening.

            http://www.artwork-photo.com/#tracy-james-383-png
            Fake white vignette???? Seriously?

            http://www.artwork-photo.com/#tracy-james-240-png
Selective color … actually RANDOM selective color!

            Hope you didn’t pay much.

          • Justin Case
          • Joseph Philbert

Why cant they stay clean … smh

          • C Sab

Because they’re hacks. Because they’re pathetic. I got more.

          • Justin Case

wasn’t implying that it was not his image at all… just that he was back to the weird, crazy photoshop-for-nothing image manipulation.

          • Justin Case

here is the address and phone it you don’t already have it.

          • Justin Case

            is this him?

          • Haining Gallagher

            Yeah

      • Joseph Philbert

Yea what Justin said… he misrepresented his level of work and expertise and conned you into hiring him under false pretenses.
You can either ask for a refund or go forward with him and hope for the best.

      • Justin Case

Haining, this is my two cents:

You are the only person on this page who has actually met John. I have no idea what he showed you, but if you feel his CURRENT website reflects what he promised and you had good communication with him, I would relax a bit and give him the benefit of the doubt.

HOWEVER, if he showed you images that have been shown above and implied/promised that was the quality you would receive, I would renegotiate at the very least. He has had three different names, two websites, and has disappeared from facebook all in the space of two weeks. I have a strange feeling that he is hiding from someone – perhaps one of the Romanian photographers he ‘collaborated’ with?

Trust your gut. If you feel sick, get another photographer. A wedding is too important a day to be second guessing about.

Just my opinion, your millage may vary, etc.

        • Haining Gallagher

I just don’t understand why someone would use someone elses work to try and get clients. If he hadn’t done many weddings he should have just been honest, tbh it probably wouldn’t have made a difference. We are on a budget so we are not expecting amazing amazing quality. But what we saw suited us. Seems he isn’t to happy we found out about this though.

          • C Sab

Of course he isn’t. Bad word of mouth can ruin a business. Especially one that relies on stealing.

          • They produce crap images so it;s harder to get clients but what they don’t understand is that if they don;t produce that level of work then you could sue for false advertising / fraud.

The other issue they don;t seem to understand is that the photographers the stole from can sue them for masive ammounts!

Canada: up to 25,000$ per infraction/photo
US: up to 150,000$ per infraction/photo + up to 25,000$ per watermark removed/Exif Info stripped.

Not sure about the rest of the world.

          • Also … you should keep looking … the quality of images on his current site isn’t worth a damn … you can probably do better and still stay in your budget.

Go check out Model Mayhem and check for photographers in you area … you might have better luck there. Be aware that not all photographers do weddings … it takes a special kind of crazy to do weddings. 🙂

        • Fazerdav

Just to add to the fiasco, this man has just ruined any opportunity to have a visual memory of my wedding for my wife and I and my elderly and frail parents who unfortunately could not attend. He came to my house a few months ago, he was very presentable, wore a shirt and tie, spoke in a soft and polite manner and came across as competent individual. He accepted my booking and a £50 deposit. 1 week before the wedding I called him to re-iterate and confirm the exact details of where and when he was required. He called back a couple of days later to confirm same. On the day he failed to arrive at the venue as agreed. Upon calling him several times with no response, he called me back from one of my neighbours phone telling me he was at my house but no one was their. I again re-iterated where the venue was including post code and full address. He was extremely aggressive and tried to deflect the blame to myself, baring in mind this was 5 minutes before my bride was due to arrive, adding further stress to the situation. Within 1 hour of that I received a badly written text from him telling me he is going to take me to court for lost earnings. I say bring it on, I would anticipate that the courts would rule in favour of a client who has spent £12k on a wedding only to have an incompetent individual almost ruin it.
The more we can expose this crook the better!
Thanks for listen and please, please, please don’t let anyone else fall into this trap!

          • Justin Case

I’m really, truly sorry to hear that. I agree with you, more exposure so that people can see what they are getting into.
I can totally understand your disappointment. I hope the rest of your wedding was still a special event and that you have some great memories even if you don’t have the photos.

Maybe hearing about what kind of damage his unprofessional behavior can cause will make John Kelly/J Francis rethink his chosen career.

          • HOLY SHIT SNACKS! (Sorry, been watching too much Archer).

I have a cover page on my contracts with the date and time, the location and phone number of/for:

            1- the bride prep
            2- the groom prep
            3- the ceremony
            4- the reception

I also have contact info for the bride, groom, best man, maid of honor. Telephone, cellphone and email!

I get a copy of this page and so does the client.

I also call the client at least 1 week before the wedding to confirm the details and again the day before the wedding to reassure them everything is a go and for last minute changes.

There is NO WAY there can be a miss-understanding.

THAT is how a professional works.

I also strive to arrive one hour before the agreed time and have a fully charged cellphone on me at all times!

This was just a complete clusterf**k.

Sue him! Sue him into oblivion and ask the admin for this site for proof that he miss-represented himself by using images that were not his own!

Also, if you could please come back here and share your experiences so that others can learn from your experience! The site isn’t just to out frauds but to help educate as well.

    • jp

      Hi,
How do you know he has changed to James Collins ?
Does he have a personal fb profile ?
      Thanks

      • Justin Case

his old facebook profile was updated to ‘James Collins’ before he took it down. I think he was using a personal page for his ‘wedding photographer’ business. See if the hair design page is still up – you can likely find him through links there.

      • Justin Case

        jp? who is this?

        • jp

          Hainings partner.
          Our situation is resolved

          • Justin Case

Glad to hear it. Hope you have a lovely wedding.

  • So this guy re-branded but at least it appears he learned his lesson.

1- Looks like he is using his own (pretty bad) work.
    http://www.artwork-photo.com/

2- Registered his domain using a anonymous registry service. (Never said all the lessons he learned were good ones. :p)
    http://www.whois.com/whois/artwork-photo.com

… let’s see how long he stays on the straight and narrow.

And wow! His work is pretty bad, especially when you compare it to the work he had originally stolen. The difference is like night and day!

He also needs to proof read his text …

“We are photographers but we make each special occasion a personal event, like that we become a part of your life that you will always remember with pleasure.
We are all about the moment and capturing the emotions and stories. The shot has to be appealing to the eye. If you are drawn to it, that is what makes a “PERFECT” shot!
We great because we love what you do and show our passion in that translation.
We want to know what the people want and we put in what we think they’ve missed…”

That is a garbled mess and he also claims the company has many years experience (only 4 weddings shown) and offer quality (sample images tell a different story).

    • Justin Case

in case there is any doubt that ‘J.Francis Wedding Photo’ IS now ‘artwork-photo.com’

    • Justin Case

(not sure why this didn’t post below)

      • Joseph Philbert

        Thank you Justin!
        I love verification.

  • David S

Hi there, unfortunately I have been
conned out of £50 deposit by this fraudster. I only noticed this website after
I had met him and realised that the few photos he shown me were in fact the
same ones posted on this website (stolen). I was saddened to read that he never
    even turned up to Fazerdav’s
wedding. Obviously, I didn’t want to run the risk of that happening…especially
trusting somebody whos website is full of other people’s work. He said that he
was booked for my Wedding date but it would be his wife who would be photographing
the wedding (although she did not attend the meeting. After informing him
within 48 hours that I had found someone else he refused to give me a refund
and pathetically threatened to get me arrested if I turned up at his house.
Therefore the address appears to be legitimate and I can confirm his phone
number is 07925303404. He had never mentioned that the refund was
non-returnable and I seriously doubt that he would have even turned up at my
wedding..a risk I am not willing to take. I am just sorry for Fazerdav and
whoever else’s big day has been ruined by this fraudster but well done to
everyone for helping expose this John Francis, James Collins or John Kelly. He
really is a lowlife and I can confirm that the photo below IS of him, although
he wore glasses when I met him. He appears charming at first but got very
aggressive when I simply asked for a refund.

    • BullShite

What a LOW LIFE. I hope there is some legal recourse you can take, even if there was a “no-refund” policy, I would think the guy being publicly outed as a fraud (i.e. that he falsely advertised to you) would warrant you getting your money back.

      • David S

Yeah he really is. I have reported it to gumtree who have warned all other respondents to him. I gave him the opportunity to refund me which he refused and I’m sure will be far more damaging financially for him than me losing out £50. I am willing to do whatever it takes to get my money back though and am awaiting a Crime Reference Number from action fraud/ the police whom gumtree have reported this to.

        • Nice! We love hearing about people taking these a-holes to court.
Keep us appraised (if you are allowed) of what is happening so that others can learn from this.

    • You might want to point him to the following page.
      http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/+/http://www.berr.gov.uk/whatwedo/consumers/fact-sheets/page38115.html

      Doorstep Selling Fact Sheet

On 1 October 2008 the ‘Cancellation of Contracts Made in a Consumer’s Home or Place of Work etc Regulations 2008’ (the Regulations) came into force. The Regulations are aimed at traders who enter into a contract with a consumer at their home, workplace or on an excursion arranged by the vendor away from his business premises.

The Regulations extend the law on cooling-off periods and cancellation rights for consumers. They cover contracts that are made during both solicited and unsolicited visits by traders.

      Key Facts

      The Regulations:

      • Replace the ‘Consumer Protection (Cancellation of Contracts Concluded away from Business Premises) Regulations 1987;

      • Extend the cooling-off period and right to cancel certain contracts made during a solicited visit by a trader;

      • Set the threshold at which the Regulations apply at a total payment value of £35 for contracts made as a result of either unsolicited or solicited visits by traders;

      • Set the cooling off period at 7 calendar days both for contracts made as a result of unsolicited visits by traders and for contracts made as a result of solicited visits by traders;

      • Make clear that the cooling off period starts on the day of receipt of a notice of the right to cancel from a trader;

      • Require that the notice of the right to cancel be prominently displayed in the same document, where the contract is completed wholly or partly in writing;

      • Require that the consumer must record his agreement in writing to performance of certain specified contracts beginning before the end of the cooling off period if that is what the parties propose;

      • Require that where a consumer has agreed to performance of a specified contract beginning before the end of the cooling off period, the trader must include in the notice of the right to cancel, a statement that payment may be required to be made if the contract is subsequently cancelled;

      • Provide that failure to include such a statement (as required in the paragraph above) in the notice of the right to cancel will constitute an offence, at level 5 of the standard scale, relating to failure to provide notice of the right to cancel;

      • Extend the scope of the Regulations to apply to extensions, conservatories, patios, and driveways; and

So he’s not adhering to UK contract law.
That being said, not sure if it’s worth taking him to court over 75$.

      • David S

Thanks for that I knew I was in the right. Just wish I did more goggling BEFORE I decided to meet him!

        • David S

          oops *googling

    • Helena

Get on to the old bill and see if they can give you some advice. He’s not adhering to the cooling off period and he should refund you after this short stretch.

      • David S

I am awaiting a Crime Reference Number from Gumtree who have reported this for me after I completed a lengthy form detailing what happened.

        • Helena

I hope that between gumtree and the police that you can get your money back.

    • U Really That Dumb?

      How did you pay?

      • David S

Cash unfortunately, although I have a signed receipt which I have scanned nd sent on to Gumtree.

    • Yea man .. I am sorry you had to through that

      • David S

It’s unfortunate when you put your trust in someone who is no more than a common thief that has the nerve to potentially ruin your wedding day. On the other hand I am very grateful to all of you here exposing this scammer. My wedding is less than 3 months away so I am relieved that I still have time to get a genuine photographer.

Looks like the ad is gone.

      • Lindsay11

Did that ad really disappear within an hour of David S posting it here??

        • Marc W.

“Sorry, the ad you are looking for is no longer available. Please see similar ads below.”

          Sure looks like it.

          • BullShite

David, if you go to court for this, screen cap the above comments and use that to help build a case. It shows the FRAUD is watching this page.

          • David S

Hi thanks for your concern…tbh I had reported it to Gumtree at the same time as replying on this website so I am uncertain of whether he does know about this site. As was previously mentioned…he’s probably getting most traffic from google analytics on here! I’ll be keeping an eye out on gumtree to see if he pops up under another guise.

          • Lindsay11

Ohhhh I thought it was odd he watched his page THAT obsessively. Good thing they removed it! Next time get a screenshot before you report it. Here’s how if you don’t know. http://www.take-a-screenshot.org/

I hope your wedding is a great day for you and your loved one David. 🙂

          • David S

Many thanks to you and keep up the good work, I’m so grateful to all of you 🙂

        J.FRANCIS WEDDING PHOTO

    • U Really That Dumb?
      • si new

Yes it was him, phone numbers etc all match. Been honest we were happy with him. He was great with my kids and neices.

        • Justin Case

so why would you bother to post here? This site is for listing people who have engaged in deceptive business practices who cheat their customers. It is NOT a review website.

What you have posted does nothing to offset the damage that John Kelly/J. Francis Artwork Photo has done to the photographers he stole from or other clients He has cheated in the past.

(or perhaps you are just a friend hoping to do some damage control?)

          • si new

I didnt say it was a reveiw website. I only posted as a couple of posts down it said that only one person had seen or met him. no i am not a friend i just typed in his name to see if mywedding photos were on his website and it took me to this page

          • captain-confuzzled

thanks for letting us know that you met him and were happy. We get a little bit cynical sometimes when dealing with so many people who are fraudulent and sometimes play games posting as other people. If you are happy with his service and the results, glad to hear it!

          • David S

You’re very right to be cynical – this si new could be the fraud. Just to give an update I have been to citizens advice and trading standards and just waiting to hear back.

          • si new

Hi david i am not him. Sorry if i have upset some people on this forum by posting just thought i would post because i have met him etc that is all. Also hope anyone out of pocket gets what they are due back cause the behaviour of him from what i have read is unacceptable

    • Lindsay11

Are they his photos? A quick glace seems to indicate that they are…

      • KimJ

Ooh the fake sun …. yikes

        • Just a Girl

I’m still trying to figure how he thinks that works!

        • Lindsay11

I just noticed Corey posted this in April and the “John Kelly” facebook page started in May.

        • captain-confuzzled

Apparently in Scotland there are two suns, shining in different directions.

    • It’s funny EVERYTIME Corey is away we seem to dig into old posts to look for rebranding … It’s a sick addiction. Anyone know of a cure lol

      • KimJ

Why should there be a cure?

      • BullShite

See, we are NOT a cult…. we are just ADDICTS.

        • peaceetc

I’m not addicted, I can stop anytime I want! I just need to look at a few more posts first. I’ll stop tomorrow. Or the day after that.

  • jem75

Hi, I’ve just come across this website. I have booked jfrancis wedding photos for my wedding in a couple of months, just tried to check his website and it’s no longer there, a Google search brought up this site. Is he a fraudster? Should I book someone else? Has anyone actually used him? Getting a bit worried now! Thanks J

    • You can’t fix stupid

Well, you can see from above all the work that he stole. If you look at his own work it is nothing closely resembling what he had advertised.

    • Justin Case

Jem, read through this comments section. There are comments from several who have used him.
here is one who booked him and then changed his mind: http://stopstealingphotos.com/j-francis-wedding-photo/#comment-1439188848
and another whose wedding he never showed up for:
      http://stopstealingphotos.com/j-francis-wedding-photo/#comment-1405518102
and to be fair, one person actually came to post something positive:
      http://stopstealingphotos.com/j-francis-wedding-photo/#comment-1493082164

We other commenters have no way of confirming or disputing the truth of any of these claims. The only thing that has been proven beyond any doubt is that he has misrepresented himself in the past and stolen credit and work from other photographers (as documented above and below).

Buyer beware. At least you should make a decision with all available knowledge.

    • You can’t fix stupid

He did make it onto “So, You think you are a photographer” https://www.facebook.com/fauxtographersrus/posts/923101414373598
      Just saying

    • I’ve found this website for him that still appears “live”:
      http://www.jfrancis-weddingphoto.com/

The complete and utter lack of photos on the site doesn’t bode well.

    • Lindsay11

” We are passionat about art,”

Jem, did you give him a deposit? Try to get it back. Book another photographer asap! Make sure they have a full portfolio and that all their images are their own. Here’s a little walkthrough on how to check images https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/1325808?hl=en

If you aren’t sure about someone I’m sure anyone here would be happy to take a look over their portfolio for you 🙂 Good luck!

    • David S

Hi there, I had booked him then after seeing he did not show up to weddings and used stolen photographs requested my £50 deposit back from him within 24 hours of booking. He refused, getting very aggressive. My wedding is in 2 days and just yesterday he left a voicemail asking for details of the venue! I have told him only to come if he is refunding me – if not then I will sort it out after the wedding! I would advise you to cancel him and also alert gumtree which I have done several times although he seems to keep posting ads. I have also reported him to action fraud.

      • BullShite

I hope you guys can get your money back from this fraud. I don’t know how the court systems work out there, but perhaps together you could do something out of principal to get your deposit, costs, and currency for your wasted time out of him?

This website has all of the documentation to make a pretty solid case, that even if you DID hire him, it was under a false pretense. I can’t imagine you would lose.

Either way, good luck to you both!

      • Thankfully it is just £50 and not 50% of the bill or something of that nature.

You might want to also remind him about this:
        https://www.gov.uk/doorstep-selling-regulations

If you sell products and services worth over £42 to a customer at their home you must provide certain information for your customers, including their right to cancel. Failure to provide this information is a criminal offence.

        Before an order is placed

You must follow certain rules before and after an order is placed. You must display information such as:

your business name and contact details

a description of your goods or services

        the price, including all taxes

        how a customer can pay

delivery arrangements, costs and how long goods will take to arrive

the minimum length of their contract

        conditions for terminating contracts

information about the customer’s right to cancel within 14 days

You must tell the customer if they will be responsible for paying for the return of goods if they cancel. If you don’t, they’re not liable for the costs.

        After an order is placed

You must get in touch with your customer in writing after an order is placed and before the goods or services have been delivered.

        You must tell them:

details of what they have purchased

        the total cost

        arrangements for delivery

the minimum duration of any contract and arrangements for terminating the contract

how and when they can cancel an order and who pays for returning goods

an address where complaints can be sent

any guarantees or after-sales services you offer

        conditions for terminating contracts

any helpline call charges that are more than calling an 01, 02 or 03 number, or a mobile or free number

        Sale of Goods Act

All businesses that supply goods, including online and distance sellers, must follow the ‘Sale of Goods Act’.

These rules apply whether you visit a customer with or without an appointment, or agree the sales contract verbally or in writing.

        Who the rules apply to

The rules apply if you sell goods or services such as:

home improvement, extension work, repair and maintenance services

        gardening services

personal items such as cosmetics, clothes, jewellery and toiletries

        household items

        books and leisure items

        nutrition and health products

energy supplies (eg gas and electricity)

disability aids and mobility products such as stair lifts, scooters and buggies

        Exceptions

        These rules don’t apply to:

financial services eg mortgages, pensions, insurance

contracts for the construction of new houses and flats, sale or rental of property (but they do apply to estate agents’ marketing services, extensions, patios, conservatories or driveways and to repairs, refurbishment and improvement of property)

contracts for food and drink supplied by regular roundsmen, like a milkman

        contracts under £43

        Penalties

Failure to inform a customer of their right to cancel is a criminal offence. If convicted the trader and/or their business could be fined up to £5,000.
